...and you practically never hear about one actually burning (without external cause).

Mine is located in the basement in the technical room between the control cabinet, heat pump, and network cabinet. And it is well situated there with a constant 18°C year-round.

I agree with you! However, my concern is to minimize a possible residual risk in advance in the case of a new building. Apart from a smoke detector in the room, I have already seen other ideas. For example, that the battery is stored at ground level, in a garden shed somewhat detached from the house, on wheels so that it can be pulled out if necessary and allowed to burn in a controlled manner. What do you think about that?

That sounds expensive and like a lot of effort. I have not heard of any fire from LiFePo4 home storage systems yet. Have you? Do you store your dryer, toaster, kettle, phone (charger), notebook, and so on outside? I have often heard/read about fires with these devices.

Battery separately as its own cabinet or as usual as a home power plant?

As nice as the idea is, I find it quite pointless in reality: 1. I would either have to relocate the entire electrical distribution to the ground floor or spend a lot on wiring 2. Even as a separate cabinet but especially as a home power plant, it is connected with a lot of cables that no one can disconnect without breathing protection in case of fire 3. Even if 1. and 2. are done, i.e., the storage is on rollers as a separate cabinet and without cables and directly next to the ground-level patio door – who will take it out?

Ask your building insurance about the topic. If they dismiss it and don't charge extra, you can assume that the real risks are extremely low. Otherwise, the clever statisticians would already calculate a surcharge.

Admittedly, you hear very little about photovoltaic battery fires, and if something does happen, it makes a highly marketable headline. And until recently, I didn't even know about LiFePo4 – I'm just a layman.

However, the comparison with mobile phones, laptops & co is not quite accurate. Firstly, we are not talking about batteries of those dimensions here, and secondly, they are much more widespread than photovoltaic batteries.
