Well, not directly in my case. Somehow you still need to get to the bathroom. The thing is that in my opinion the TE really doesn’t need the room, but Grandma and Grandpa do. Others build a gallery and then just a bedroom with a shower on the upper floor. Nobody would doubt that as long as all other needs are met. It’s more or less the same here – apart from the budget, aesthetics, space, parking situation, and so on. :D

Works, almost 1 m deep across the full corridor width.

Thanks for this draft. The granny flat has now become slightly bigger, but unfortunately, the ground floor in the main house is a little smaller because of the utility room. Overall, the changes in the utility room are also too many for me. We would like to keep the straight staircase in the main house (if possible). Is it not possible to plan a different staircase in the granny flat than the current space-consuming one? I just had a (crazy) idea. Since the utility room takes up quite a bit of space and the garage is relatively spacious, couldn’t the utility room be moved there?

That is a good idea. The granny flat should also have a (small) storage room.

Good cue: what do you think of my suggestion that you reflect in a way that one can build upon the drafts in posts #89 and #116?

Bad idea. It should be inside the thermal envelope and, as I have learned from you, be accessible quickly to the north?! And somewhere you still want to store the kids' bikes or yours, right? What are you thinking of? A space-saving staircase where healthy young people have already injured themselves because they are so steep? It will probably be more likely that seniors will also use the room upstairs or clean it or ventilate it when the son is not there, right?! That is a bit unfair to now: she plans all kinds of good things, mostly with non-straight stairs because they save space, and now you come and say that a straight staircase is the wish. There is nothing about that in the original post, as far as I remember. I even checked "back then" myself.
