Take this… it was created as an improvement before the studying son appeared.

We have initially stopped the construction project until further notice. My husband and I had a long discussion about our BV today. Although my husband now wants to push through with the matter, he ultimately realized that it is better to once again question the entire floor plan. Every further change will indeed cost us quite a bit of money, but it is better to make changes now than when the house is later built and we wonder why this and that was not noticed during the planning phase. I am very grateful that some people here in the forum have put in a lot of effort to help us. We would have wished that our architect had had the same attitude during the planning. But I do not want to give our architect the entire blame for this disaster—that would be too easy. We simply should have been more careful and perhaps should have looked for another architect in time. However, we are optimistic that through the good tips and suggestions from here, we will still be able to realize our dream house with its special requirements and challenges.

P.S. I would like to explicitly apologize to all 70-year-olds and those who are of a similar age or will soon be, [in square brackets]. It was not my intention to degrade these age groups in any way.

@ Katja; Thank you very much for this draft. I like it right away. Good idea with the shared entrance - that saves quite a bit of space. Could you please maybe also include the room dimensions and how the building is oriented on the plot?

That is indeed a tough nut to crack. We also spent (too) much time on it during the planning phase.

Garages/carports must have a 5m distance from the street (at least in our development area).

I guess I have to take that blame. I chose the plot after consulting with the architect.

Apology accepted and congratulations on your insight!

To all smart alecks, cowards, and password forgetters: we can help even better if you don’t suddenly land here with your UFO, but instead openly say if you have a backstory and in which thread it can be found.

This wish is always legitimate where you pay and commission the architect yourself. “Whose bread I eat, his song I sing.” A draftsman simply cannot do otherwise than act in the interest of the construction company. An architect can only be true to the art of design without quotation marks around his professional title.

Within the framework of the aforementioned dilemma that the builder is still your superior, the “architect” served you absolutely blamelessly. You yourselves put him on the wrong horse by essentially commissioning him with: “fold our too many wishes like intestines into the building structure.” He tried his best to fulfill THAT excellently! – so it would be ungrateful to blame him alone. I am happy to help with finding architects (and am, as is well known, also reachable under my forum name at gmx de).

It was a first idea. But there are still some things unclear. The WC, the distance of the carport to the street, also the entrance area for 5 people who want to drop off their bags and jackets somewhere when they arrive. Can you expect the parents-in-law to struggle through that before entering their own apartment? My sister has it like that. It works for her. But how is it in general?

Oh! That is very brave of you!

Then you should search all your threads for questions from us and also comment on the mentioned ideas… whether you can imagine, for example, the living room being upstairs or a separate accessible guest area. Then age/bonding student, etc… how many cars will there actually be after moving in, etc… in every sentence there is a question somewhere that could help us move forward, that is, us as creatives, to find the right path for you among many. By the way, I also started with a common corridor yesterday…
