I know ... following my train(s) of thought is (unfortunately) often quite difficult :( Maybe I was still mentally a bit with the bathtubs ... :)

Hopefully, the bay window in the basement will continue in the floor above??

I haven’t come across that here yet among the many city villas – with clear, straight lines.

I only reacted basically to the term "old-fashioned" regarding "bay windows" :)

And before (again) wrong assumptions arise: No, I am not a fundamental advocate of bay windows, just as little as for the non-necessity of the bathtub :D

Hmm... maybe because they weren’t Art Nouveau villas??? Could be. The word "villa" has meanwhile been corrupted just like many other things. So far, I haven’t seen a villa in a model home center, but rather more or less standard buildings that are called "villa" on sales lots. I once lived for a while in a villa floor, rented. The floor had 150 sqm, which was probably more like impoverished nobility, but calling 170 sqm over two floors a "villa" already fails simply because of the size; there’s no vinyl flooring or wall units there either. True style usually continues within a building. It’s a residential house, maybe even a nice one, but definitely not a villa. I’m hopefully building a nice house but wouldn’t think of calling it a villa or anything like that. Just because I now make pasta salad doesn’t mean I call myself "Bocuse," yet my pasta salad is great o_O.

My full agreement. Maybe I should have put Stadtvillen in quotation marks ... so "Stadtvillen" :)

found the fitting term for it: Astatt-Villen. As I said, I don't want to speak negatively about the building or this design itself, I just find the term "Villa" rather funny. Also, there is no "country house" in the settlement. Apparently, these word plays help in selling.....

... (also) bay windows? :D Taste is what pleases. We also have a bay window. Above it is a balcony. It hasn't occurred to me to consider it "old-fashioned" yet. I am rather neutral about it; it is just "there." It may be that fewer bay windows – that is, "protrusions" on the facade – are built today (just like possibly chimneys). But this is certainly due to costs and the resulting (low) benefit for some – see basement. ... and before we get "lost" in bay windows, we should leave it at that :)

You are working from, in my opinion, the misconception that the basement question arises for people who would have built in normal times as well and considered inflation- or economic cycle-related influences on construction prices. I, on the other hand, have the impression that the basement question (and especially the tendency towards rejection and hopes of saving) is mainly fueled by those who only came into the opportunity to realize a homeownership dream in a time of cheap construction loans. They see their unexpectedly close social ascent to homeownership in danger of bursting again if they do not restrict themselves to the "core" - which conversely means leaving out two things: 1. the basement and 2. the freelance architect. In this view, the basement plays the role of "buried costs": (completely) underground space produces no prestige, and is therefore ineffective as a "we could build too" status symbol. For similar reasons, carports are increasingly popular until reality intervenes: the open Porsche or BMW depicted in home simulations unfortunately turns out upon studying the construction specification to be "to be provided by the builder," and you don’t want to present the Focus Turnier near the cover like a pearl necklace; besides, the tented attic offers what I’d call an "unconvincing offer" of storage space. The all-inclusive drawing serf is then only the logical continuation of the general, generic touristy daily fake decadence. I see it as only a question of time until new housing developments are renamed to "GZSZ Areas" ;-)
