Maybe I should replace the term floor-to-ceiling with room-high. I don't know how it is technically solved, but I have seen on many photos that it is possible. I do not assume that all these photos are fakes. But as mentioned, for our house construction it was unfortunately a wish that could not be implemented. For that, maybe you really have to build an architect-designed house.

I actually quite like curtains too, and my current house doesn’t have room-high windows either. Are there advantages besides the higher amount of light? I have very little opinion on that, I need to read up on it.

Unfortunately, I am not aware of any, as it was not feasible for us anyway, and I did not pursue the topic further. If the curtains hang on the left and right of the window/the patio door, the lack of space above the windows should not matter, or do you, MotorradSilke, mean curtains that are regularly closed? For now, I still hope to manage without curtains in our new house. We'll see; I will then show lots and lots of photos ... it is still a bit of my pride to prove that our house/floor plan, which was not met with enthusiasm here in the forum, did not turn out so bad after all. ;-) At least with the exterior shape of our house, apart from the already identified wrong decisions (roof pitch too low) and too few, too wide windows instead of more, narrower, taller ones (that was something I couldn’t achieve with my husband ;-) ), I am satisfied. :) I can only comment on the interior once more of it is completed. I won’t show a photo here now, so your thread does not get accidentally hijacked.

I saw your house pictures in the photo thread and found the house very charming from the outside. Are you really that dissatisfied with the windows? I thought they looked very harmonious. The floor plan doesn’t need to be met with general enthusiasm in the forum. I think you do get good input here – otherwise we wouldn’t have made ours available for dissection – and you just have to filter out what is helpful. Otherwise, the range of people in a forum is as wide as in real life, both in terms of character as well as education level and soft skills. It’s totally normal not to agree with everyone. I believe people express criticism much more bluntly and directly in an anonymous space than they would in direct contact, which can be disadvantageous because you need to have a thick skin, but also advantageous because you hear things that people might not tell you directly (so as not to cause disappointment). Ultimately, it is up to the builders to create from the forum’s feedback and their individual wishes what they like. Not for the forum, but for the builders. ;) Oh go on, it’s – as always – already drifted off in various directions anyway, I’d be happy to see your photos. :)

I meant curtains or drapes with a proper curtain rod. Whether they close or not doesn’t matter. At least for our 3 m wide sliding window, I couldn’t mount it only on the sides, since it would need additional support in the middle. Ours are not meant to be drawn closed, just decoration; I don’t like bare windows.

Apart from that, if you have ceiling-high or floor-to-ceiling windows and want to realize that with a suspended ceiling, you would have to increase the original room height at least by the size of the roller shutter box.

Contrary to my original plan, I have now imported it into SH3D and tinkered with it a bit. I discarded the colossal garage, planning instead to realize a smaller carport with a shed separate from the main building. The residential house has been slightly widened. Hobby swaps places with fitness. Guest and fitness have been combined on the upper floor. Overall, this is probably still too many square meters. Perhaps the entire structure can be shrunk by a few centimeters on all outer sides to reduce the total square meter count a bit.
