I really like the simple clarity of your house. I find the combination of the closed appearance with the boldly large, closed, windowless surface on the entrance side and the very open and light-flooded architecture of the living space over two floors extremely successful. This way, you have excellently satisfied the need for protection and privacy while also fulfilling the desire for light and connection to nature.
The planning more or less evolved naturally from us. From experience, I knew about myself that I prefer more of a "wall" from the street, but at the same time also like huge window surfaces. Fortunately, no one wanted this plot, it was the last one there; maybe it’s simply due to the different lifestyle.
In particular, we like the plot more and more each day, with our sheep in front of the windows and the view into the greenery. At the front, there is a settlement, but with nice people; I don’t need to look out there anyway. Also, it faces north.
For this reason, the carport/parking space/work place/storage area found its place IN FRONT of the house, another boundary for the private area. Of course, we could already do many things differently, but once the annoying construction defects have been fixed, I think we will feel comfortable there.
Without being able to describe it so eloquently or even knowing it, it became like this for exactly these reasons; as the saying goes: from the gut, especially your own.
In hindsight, the house could also have used windows that might have looked arbitrary, but the arbitrariness (did recently post a photo somewhere?) would have been planned, meaning no sills at the same height or windows exactly aligned and not on any imagined line.
The irony is that it would have saved some trouble you had with your windows.
Personally, I would also be happy to see some photos from the inside :)
You’re right about the windows; this thing isn’t finished yet, supposedly a new attempt on 12/08 with big equipment... It’s actually, to put it mildly, a laughing stock what this so-called German quality work allows itself here; 4th attempt! We initially had windows in there, especially in the guest room, but it faces directly to the neighbor, and he would have had a “view” from above. In the end, we consistently placed the windows according to internal needs or privacy protection, and we were aware that from the outside, one might sometimes “expect” such windows somewhere. The guest room and guest bathroom could use a bit more light; maybe I would do it differently now, but on the other hand, it gives us maximum flexibility inside with furniture regarding future use.
Inside is already almost nice, currently the floor is covered again. Electrician is coming on Saturday... hopefully..., then the stove goes in, etc. I think in two weeks it will look better, maybe also with a few pictures then.
Certainly, a more skilled planner might have been helpful, but considering the overall situation and after some tours through new housing estates, we now feel quite comfortable with the look of our defective specimen. At the front on the tall wall, maybe a tall plant will go there; for example, I would also like a huge house number made of wood/steel or something... we’ll see, maybe someone has a nice idea.
We also wanted to do some things simply that way and therefore have to live with the risk of stepping into it, as I said, it is an overall result from an annoying backstory, Corona, time pressure, own misjudgments, etc., which is why the house turned out like this.
If I could live it backwards, I would know what I would do... only to probably end up at the same point again :D.
