You always assume that goods from abroad are worse than those in Germany. But that is not always the case. Example: windows, fences, stairs. I know enough homeowners who have gotten these things from Poland and would do it again and again because they are convinced of the quality. The same goes, for example, with car repairs. Many German auto workshops (about 10 that I have been to) only replace parts and no longer repair them in order to charge more. I have now found a local one who is not out to make money. Our cars are completely fixed there.

No, he does not assume that. But you are too personally triggered to understand what he and want to say.

No idea how you come to that. The arrogance to believe that everything is better here is completely foreign to me. I buy local because of the people, not because of the prices. In doing so, I prefer people who enjoy their work. In this way, I usually get very good quality and rarely the lowest price. I consider the money well spent.

Exactly! It's always a give and take. In my case, the kitchen builder has been on site three times to install/modify something additional. He didn't want any money for it. Don't know if Leszek from Gdańsk would be like that...

But it's typically German... Everyone complains about the bakery and butcher shops disappearing, but they buy their bakery rolls and packaged meat at Aldi, Lidl, and co. The main thing is that the big BMW is parked in the driveway.

Again, what does local mean? Poland is closer to me than Westphalia...

Yes, I would really like to get such rolls somewhere again like back then. On Saturday mornings, if I was awake early enough, I would go with Dad to the bakery in the neighboring town around 6 o’clock. There we got fresh rolls and I was allowed to pick a Stabilo fineliner from the counter display every time.
The double rolls were so crispy on the outside and so fluffy and full of flavor on the inside. You could easily eat them just with butter; they didn’t need any topping.

But that was a long time ago. The bakery no longer exists, Dad has passed away, and the last time I ate such good rolls was almost 20 years ago.
Still, I like to think back to that story so much that I always have to tell it whenever it’s about rolls.
