I am not very technically skilled, so I will now quote from my equipment description:
"DIN VDE 0100-420 (VDE 0100-420):2016-02 is currently being revised internationally and is also to be introduced in Germany. This standard requires the installation of so-called residual current devices (fire protection switches). The installation of these switches in single-phase AC systems with an operating current not exceeding 16 A is mandatory for new buildings upon completion of the electrical system starting from 18.12.2017.
The following measures will be implemented:
- Larger meter cabinet, additional distribution panel
- Fire protection switches according to technical specifications
These devices are intended to limit the risks of fire in consumer circuits due to residual currents."
And that costs €3,000.
!? As I said, unfortunately I am not a technology guru. Therefore, I cannot even say whether this amount is reasonable or far too high. I just don't know. In any case, it annoys me that I was only informed about this during the equipment consultation at the factory half a year after signing the contract (and 5 months after this guideline became known).
