Why building a house almost always costs more than calculated

Yes, that’s how we had planned it before – but what actually came at you, you only became aware of then.

I am proud of the work done on our house because I really know this house inside and out and had many materials in my own hands.

But doing something like that again? I don’t think so... I just want to sit on the sofa and relax.

By the way, we currently have a shower curtain hanging there – including our tiled staircase, so truly social housing.

And then two old cars with 250,000 km and 330,000 km standing in front of the door.

"Much" is relative ....

It requires a mounting frame, sealing fleece, sealing slurry and tapes, and more manual work, so hours (if I forgot something, hopefully Olli will clarify). This usually amounts to between €750.00 and €1,500.00, depending on the size of the finished shower and the choice of the drain channel or grate.

But as always – it adds up. From my point of view, Merlin is right with his post #3 – it depends on self-discipline. "More" is always possible, the question is whether "more" is always necessary everywhere? We have already assisted clients who spent €900.00 on a bathroom trash can and honestly? The thing looks chic, but nothing more than that.

Rhineland regards

Then also remember to choose a larger hot water tank, otherwise you won't be able to shower for long

Rhenish greetings

Me too. But my wife is currently against it. As a gardener, she can no longer stand that the garden has become a weed wilderness after 1.5 years. So last week, after work and on the weekend, it was time to swing the digging fork and "weed out". On Sunday, then, half of the property was seeded with lawn. Yesterday she was particularly mean to me. I came home in the evening (you might still know my working hours), starving. Since the food was still in the oven, the order was given: Off to the bed. Cut the geotextile, lay it down and put the purchased bark mulch on top. Well – the food was long finished and (somewhat) cooled down again when we returned to the house around 10 p.m. But the wife is happy. Slowly the garden is taking shape. After removing the weeds, she can see the hedge again. Now only the second half of the garden needs to be freed from weeds (but before that, the stair builder and civil engineer still have to work, so another major operation is currently not worthwhile).

Apart from the huge buffer tank that you need for such a panel.

Um – we also have a shower panel (rain shower, hand shower with waterfall function as well as massage jets). Certainly not as well equipped as the one from (if I understand correctly it is a steam shower – I would love it ), but the integrated water storage of 175 l in the Vaillant pump is more than enough. Cold water was only around when the heating failed once. Even then, the wife and kids had already bathed before.
