What is the TV or receiver supposed to do with POE? They don’t run on 12 watts, do they?

If I understood you correctly, you have a basement and 2 or 3 floors? If you now lay 8 POE cables there, you quickly have 5 watts of continuous power loss. That is 43 kWh per year at 24/7/365 operation.

The same applies to the switch in the basement. The 24-port version also takes its 15-20 watts and has to run continuously, whether you use 1 port or 24.

You can turn off the POE switch on the ground floor, first floor, second floor if the TV is not running.

Also think about power consumption in everything. Over the years, this becomes a significant cost factor.

4 ports running permanently 24/7/365 in the HAR... or a 5-port switch that only runs when I need the receiver, TV, PS5, or streaming, so about 20-30% of the year...

Electricity consumption and above all saving electricity will be one of the central questions of this century...

Since none of the devices you mentioned require POE, I don't understand what you are getting at? Producing more electronic waste by distributing as many small switches as possible in the house?

But that also exists (POE Passthrough), however, why plan such an emergency solution when you can do it right from the start? Simply lay enough network ports star-shaped to the network cabinet and connect them as needed to a central poe/non-poe switch.

Of course, that works for someone who knows about the topic. However, that is not the case here. So the simple answer for the average user is no, that does not work. Afterwards, there is great concern when nothing works anymore and you have to invest additional money instead of doing everything right from the beginning, as you also write, planning and installing enough ports from the start. Along with suitable energy-saving technology in the HAR.

A makeshift solution piggybacking on another makeshift solution is not the way to go in a new building.

Yes, we have 3 floors + basement

I think I expressed myself poorly

We do not want to lay so many Cat cables in one place, as we have to pay €250 per Cat duplex
We prefer to distribute more double sockets rather than laying 4 ports in one place

The only devices that need POE are the APs on each floor and possibly the small switches in the room

I thought I would supply the access point and small switches (only if needed) with POE so that I still need a power outlet in those rooms
No devices that require POE would be connected to the small POE switch in the rooms

What would you say I should do

The topic of saving electricity should not be ignored
