Do you need LAN cables in the garage?

Somehow I can’t follow your calculation... Starting with the fact that a 4-port switch doesn’t give you 4 connections in one room, but only 3. Because the 4th has to serve as an uplink. I’ve never seen anyone unplug their decentralized switches when not in use. That might theoretically work with the PC power strip, but otherwise it’s quite unrealistic. Why do you compare centralized with PoE and decentralized suddenly without PoE? And then, when you add it all up soberly, you would need a total of 7 decentralized switches plus the central one for your example. Where is the saving in power consumption coming from now (I haven’t checked the alleged 2.5W, but they seem rather optimistic)? How much does the additionally required, always-occupied socket for the switch cost?

Other disadvantages would be, for example, that with one switch all connections are in one place. But the devices might be located on different walls.

Back to the topic: we are currently building and a LAN cable is coming into our garage (12m away from the house). It is essential for the wallbox, but I also want to have internet in the garage (long with workbench and tinkering corner). WLAN would be too insecure for me there.

then get yourself a duplex line right away. This way you can use one for the wallbox or one for an access point. With only one line, I would connect an access point and supply everything (including the wallbox) via WiFi.

A classic switch is of course also still an option here, despite having only one connection to get all participants onto the network via cable.

yes, I actually also thought of a PoE switch.

For many things, unfortunately, you still need a point-to-point connection. That’s why I wouldn’t do without duplex at that point (WB serially connected .) If you have the option, you could also lay a pre-made fiber optic patch cable (20m might cost about 30€). Then you would have galvanic isolation between the house LAN and the workshop LAN with suitable switches. From my experience, not the worst idea ;)
