How many devices do you have active? Do you always patch around because the switch is too small?

Regarding port counting: For example, I currently have the AVR in the basement because I can't connect and operate it here. In the new building, I want to do that (again). For that, I need a connection that I currently don't have. That's how I approached the planning. Unfortunately, due to the limitations in the transitional apartment, I am not using all the devices, but I planned the connections for them in the house. The planning was in 2021, so a few days ago. Now, for simplicity, I counted ports instead of going through all my hardware, which is now stored with relatives. I just hope they don’t grow feet.

And yes, my wife downloads recipes (or does whatever with it) using the kitchen machine. It’s the Lidl one.

Unfortunately, I can no longer edit, so here separately. I have listed the optional connections separately. There is no "double assignment" here. What interests me now: How many connections have you planned and how many do you manage with? About us: 4 people, 6 rooms (excluding basement/utilities), 2x home office, no smart devices.

I currently have 48 1 GbE ports planned in the house design, you can manage that! Of these, 21 PoE devices are permanently active, 16 ports come from duplex sockets in the living rooms (of which about 6 are realistically used permanently). 10 ports come from the server cabinet, 1 port connects a DIN rail switch in the power distribution, and on top of that there are three 10 GbE connections from the router, NAS, and my workstation... more ports in the living rooms could easily be accommodated, but I don't want a second switch in the rack.

The actual question was:

Which household appliances, i.e. kitchen devices or white goods, really have RJ45 connections? All the smart oven stuff I've only ever encountered with WiFi? I don't count building technology in terms of heating/air conditioning.

Oh yes, I recently received a 24-port PoE switch from Ubiquiti as a gift. I almost fell over when I measured the power consumption: it pulls 40 watts in idle with no active ports, which amounts to €120 per year. Currently, I only have one PoE device active, so a simple 8-port switch is enough. That uses just a fraction. Who knows what the future holds and how much data will be needed later, but for now, I can only recommend keeping the effort minimal. I always wonder what people want to shuffle around infinitely large amounts of data for.

With only one device, I would use exactly one injector, which consumes even less and saves a switch

I also need a switch for a few normal devices, that’s fine.
