ok thanks
I will take a closer look at Unifi again

What do you actually think about surveillance cameras?
Do you need something like that nowadays?

Nope. No one is deterred by that. More important is noise and a lot of light in the event of an alarm, as well as making entry difficult of course. Time and the risk of being caught deter or stop burglars, not cameras. You can then just check later to see what happened. However, I have still distributed them in sufficient numbers around the house, although I think it’s more for the fun of the technology.

I also have Unifi and am still "struggling" with the system here and there. But it's fun and looks good ;) I will rely on surveillance cameras because there are repeated break-ins in our area, especially in new housing developments. We are still building, but the plan (as mentioned) includes a video doorbell (also) for monitoring the front yard, a camera at the carport, and one in the garden facing the patio doors. When the alarm mode is armed, motion detection should of course also trigger further actions, e.g., turning on outside lights, sending a notification to the smartphone, possibly (if well secured against false alarms) also an alarm notification inside the house, etc.

Nobody is deterred by that, that's true. Ideally, you can later identify the perpetrator from it, but for that the camera needs to be good enough and the burglar dumb enough. For motion detection alone, a surveillance camera is obviously overkill and too imprecise, but especially at the entrance area I would also like to start automations, depending on the person. Reliable facial recognition might still be a bit away, but until then certainly the fun with the technology you mentioned.

ok thanks we have increased burglary protection for the windows I could still imagine installing a camera in front of the house but towards the garden I actually don’t want to be filmed if offenders are not deterred by it a camera hardly makes sense (unless you enjoy it) even if the burglar is seen on the camera you probably won’t find him a high burglary rate is not common here which video doorbell are you using?

One does not film but monitors. These are different things.
