"Cobbler, stick to your last," as the saying goes... And that's what I say - 25 years of software dev (sorry, no degree), hardware tinkerer, and I know my way around IT/Smarthome/IoT/network technology very well.

if you, , are a Master of Science IT, I don't understand why you mess around with such a toy and don't use a truly IT-based SmartHome system (OpenHAB, MQTT broker)

Soon I will report on current progress with us...

Personally, I have some understanding for users who want to use "proven legacy systems". But would Tesla be where it is if it had just converted conventional cars instead of completely developing a computer with a chassis from scratch? You can see how far conventional car manufacturers get with their vision  So home automation and SmartHome under one roof, one app, expert system for more usability and so on...

No idea how it works with KNX and what financial effort would be behind it:
Here is my routine getting up: All venetian blinds are down, tilt about 55° (protected from view but light comes in), bedroom and bathroom lights turn on (well, the light part is simple)

"Our" system also "knows" where the venetian blinds are by now (it's a bit tricky because venetian blinds go down faster than up, for example, the first half going down is at a different speed than the other half). Since we can control these via logic -> Arduinos > industrial relays, we can make them "dance" arbitrarily

Currently we are in the phase where we seek & receive feedback from electricians regarding everyday suitability and practical implementation.
OpenHAB will also soon be phased out, everything will then run in a self-developed app, updates from the cloud etc. are in development...

Keyword "SmartHome for everyone" for those interested

Interesting - are there any details anywhere?

Unfortunately, we only have limited developer capacity available, but I will gladly report more details here soon: https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/offenes-smarthome-system-prototyp-fuer-jedermann.36275/ My apartment serves as a playground, but I am not the programmer ;-) instead, I am one of the initiators of the system.

So you have little to no experience with the system and apparently have only heard that such a thing exists. By the way, this is the biggest problem with IT people in the field of building technology. Most do not realize that this has nothing to do with IT and that these are two completely different disciplines, even though there are overlaps. 1. Nothing is programmed in KNX, but parameterized. In other words, you simply click through menus, buttons, or enter values into fields. But you could also program if you leave the KNX world and switch to the IT level with TCP/IP, HTTP, IOT, etc., for example to set up servers, etc. But you don’t have to, because KNX includes most of what you need for home automation and all of this works without the mentioned servers and more. 2. To parameterize and set up the system, you need a completely normal electrician, because it was developed exactly for that purpose, so that anyone with their usual 3.5-year training can handle KNX, whether in a warehouse, office, or airport. 3. Everything in KNX also works on the fly. I preferably do it from the sofa. Whether on my own system or somewhere at a customer in a neighboring country. But of course changes can also be made directly on the display in the living room/hallway, etc. Rademacher is of course acceptable and it is better than no home automation at all. But with all due respect, it is a toy/entry-level system for the ambitious layman.
