Well, I also think it’s complaining at a very high level. Who can even afford a granny flat?
My brother-in-law also complains terribly about the high construction costs, and a kitchen for €35,000 is planned. That doesn’t make sense to me either.
We were informed that for cost reasons, it’s better for us to build the house upwards rather than outwards. So the basement had to be included anyway, even though we didn’t want it at first. And then we were advised to plan a granny flat in the already existing basement, since the costs would be reimbursed through subsidies.
One person doesn’t understand how anyone can afford such a thing, while for another the tiny granny flat is too small to even rent out. So you can only do it wrong.
A kitchen for €35,000 would definitely be too expensive for me.
I just want to say that this has nothing to do with being decadent, but that we were advised on all this with the note to get the best possible for “little” money. If that doesn’t fit, then we were advised incorrectly and should consider re-planning the whole thing.

Well, if you plan above your personal needs, instead of a nice small 1.5-story building you plan 3 (full) stories (even if mathematically it is less), treat yourself to an expensive granny flat meant for the teenage child, then that is planning on a grand scale. Of course, when the costs then explode so unpredictably, as a builder who has dealt with needs and extras for weeks, I know very well where the cost drivers are and where I can start first to save. And you also have to see yourself where you really stand: the huge hats in the area are from a different building era, possibly by higher earners than you, and honestly: you don’t build as the neighbor needs it, but as you need it yourself and can also financially manage it. When the interest rates were above 6%, things were more modest. Everyone must and should use their own time as it is offered to them.
But we are exactly aware of that and we also agreed that 125 sqm is absolutely sufficient for us. We would have also done without the basement but because of the slope it is simply necessary. We could also skip it and build a retaining wall all around for the same money which does not offer any added value.
