Forget it, he won’t do it! Your architect "does not think for you" and he will not take away your decision about the basement. If you say "with," then he plans with it; if you say without, then he does it without...

I am always amazed at what some clients expect. If the architect is not accidentally related to you or in love with you, he is first and foremost one thing: a salesman. That's why first drafts are often bigger than the budget allows. I have certainly never seen a draft where the client said, "Oh, that's too small for me, the budget allows more." So yes, if you even hint that you would like a basement, it will be included. You better assume that he doesn't care if you ruin yourself personally for your castle. Then you have the necessary skepticism and everyone stays happy.

Well, quite simply, that you get in touch to say whether you want the "freed-up" consultation slot. Like with Jim Rockford: just a call is enough!
(or you email, but I can't read minds).

I understand your opinions, but I see it a little differently. In this case, he is not like a salesman, we know each other here in the village and he wants everyone to be satisfied in the end, because it is not beneficial for him if people say around here that he doesn’t care. He doesn’t depend on us and has enough to do, plus he clearly goes the other way and "started small" trying to pack our requirements into the most compact space possible. But in the end, we will know who is right. I am curious about the appointment on Monday and will report back to you... best regards
