Hello, in which direction would you lay the vinyl oak wood look on the ground floor and upper floor?
affected rooms ground floor: hallway, storage, living/dining, kitchen
affected rooms upper floor: children's room east, children's room west, corridor, master bedroom, dressing room

My impression is that rectangular rooms appear wider and shorter when laid crosswise, whereas they appear longer and narrower when laid lengthwise. This phenomenon hardly occurs on the upper floor. Based on gut feeling, I would go for [Ost-West-Verlegung] there (if north is at the top).

It becomes more difficult on the ground floor. With [Ost-Westverlegung], the already long living-dining area is stretched out. With [Nord-Süd-Verlegung] (if the kitchen also gets vinyl), the dining-kitchen area is affected. In my mind, it would look better with [Nord-Süd-Verlegung]. Even more so if the kitchen is tiled. (The transition, however, would be nicer with [Ost-Westverlegung] to the kitchen because it’s a cleaner cut.)

I wouldn’t change the laying direction within a floor from room to room.

My recommendation: Take a look at rectangular rooms with different floor coverings. Especially with 30x60 tiles, you can see this phenomenon that the rooms seem proportioned differently very well. With most vinyl designs, in my impression, you have a similar phenomenon.

From right to left on the plan - on both floors.

At least in the hallway, you should consider tiles. I initially wanted to lay parquet, but after the first year, it would probably be completely ruined because dirt and little stones are constantly being tracked in, and the children also like to bring in buckets of sand from their shoes and socks... Unless you already have the outdoor areas completely finished, then it should be manageable.

Upstairs, lay it lengthwise with the light, so from left to right. Downstairs, I would lay it from top to bottom. Why? If east is on the left, the main light comes from the south... and if south is on the left, the main light mainly comes from the west in the evening.
