So, the glazier was just here. After I was already on the verge of a nervous breakdown and had to take off my sweater because of hot flashes, he still had an idea:
With the normal installation of the door, he would have needed a stop and would have had to mount the hinges for the door directly on the wall. But that would have meant that, because of the 15mm thick reveal boards, he couldn't mount the fittings, since they must be a maximum of 20mm from the edge of the opening. But that would have become too unstable because the drill holes for that would have been right at the edge of the KVH.
At that point, I got really hot and already saw myself dismantling half the cabin. He said the easiest way would be if I build a wooden door and window, where he only has to insert the glass panes.
When I then explained to him that I basically assumed he could mount it with door hinges which he screws directly to the reveal, he came up with the idea of using hinges from shower doors, which should work well. From the lintel to the upper hinge, between the two hinges, and then down to the floor, he will install a sealing lip. It isn't completely tight, but with our usage (pre-run, sauna 1-3x per week), I don't care. On the other side, towards the window, we are working with a magnetic catch and sealing lips to keep the door closed.
The whole thing will - as always - not be cheap; I currently estimate around €900, but then it will be the all-glass thing as we had always imagined. I'm just really relieved that I don't have to dismantle everything; that would have been a real setback... ;)
Now I can also quite well estimate the costs for the sauna. That should be interesting for some DIY builders.
We're at around €4,800. Attached is the cost breakdown. Originally, I wanted to stay under €4,000. Doesn't help :D
The most expensive items with saving potential are definitely the lighting with €550, the stove with control for around €1,350, and of course the glass front.
In addition, there are expenses for various tools (miter saw, work stand, circular saw, etc.) amounting to around €650.
