I have meanwhile screwed perforated plates from below to the connection points; a few brackets are still missing, but the scaffolding is now so stable that we can probably do without the feet.
For the wall mounting, I used 5x100 Spax screws, I still have quite a few left. So far, I have used them at intervals of about ~20cm; I will probably reduce that spacing with the remaining screws. Better safe than sorry.
Already two of us have sat on it, and except for a slight deflection of the front edge, not much happens. The bench slats should stabilize it further and, above all, the load will be better distributed and no longer concentrated in points.
Tomorrow I want to start with the bench slats; I ordered suitable 10mm spacer crosses for that, which should make everything nice and clean. They just need to arrive now ;)
Now a question:
The squared timbers have an edge length of 52mm, the bench slats are 28mm thick. Together that’s 80mm. For fastening from below, I bought 4x70 Spax screws.
The bench slats are 120mm wide. How often would you screw them on? Once or twice per squared timber? For the long slats spanning the entire width, that means 5 or 10 screws.
Actually, I only wanted to screw once per squared timber in the middle, but I have some doubts whether the slats might start cupping over time? I hope you understand what I mean...
How would you approach pre-drilling? Skip it entirely, only pre-drill the squared timbers, or even pre-drill a little into the bench slats as well? My gut feeling says I would pre-drill the squared timbers, but I'm just skeptical whether the bench slats might crack then...
There’s also news about the Odyssey with Saunainter from Estonia.
After those idiots informed me on 02.02. that the delivery had been shipped (it had already been with me for 8 days then), they offered me a refund in my PayPal case. But for the full amount.
I have only sent back the sauna control system so far; I’m curious how the refund will go.
They really do everything wrong you can do wrong
