Sauna in the main bathroom or in the basement?

Thank you very much for the picture and the explanations. Since we are still in the planning phase, the floor plan is still variable. In the current floor plan version, there would be enough space for a sauna both in the upper floor and in the basement, as the floor area is large.

Report from the family home: We used to have the sauna in the basement. It was spacious and there was plenty of room. You could have fun sauna parties with friends. But in my opinion, it wasn't really cozy. The basement is just dark, and for relaxing I find it nicer in daylight. Now we have the sauna in the attic. That is very nice. In front of the sauna room, we have a seating area by the window, a full bath next to it, and if you want, you can also lie down. But mostly we sit in our bathrobes by the window and chat.

Thank you very much for your experiences. Currently, we are planning 2 full floors with a large floor area plus a basement. The desired roof shape would be a tent roof/hip roof, so there will be no attic. In our current house, it bothers us that we have 4 floors (basement, ground floor, upper floor, attic), so we are planning a larger floor area and one floor less. According to your description, however, a wellness area in the attic sounds very tempting.

The picture should show
that the sauna in the basement can be a wooden box with a window in the door (inexpensive 08/15).
And the sauna in the living area is a bathroom furniture piece and should be very well designed.
The interior cladding is Canadian cedar and the smell mh, :)

So we want an appealing and high-quality sauna no matter where it is ultimately placed ;-)

If possible, integrate it into the bathroom. It can become a nice wellness oasis. Who wants to shake in the dark basements? Possibly past junk. Cold shower then in the basement or back up to the bathroom?
