I wouldn't plan for a window. Just a fan to be able to exchange the air there if necessary. Yes, you have to turn on the light switch every time you want to quickly grab something – but the stored items appreciate the darkness – canned goods in jars, jams, teas in cellophane, potatoes, onions – they like it dark.

Then I'll try to say something about it somehow...

Briefly on the topic of sliding doors: I think they look nice, they also have certain advantages, but with our construction company they cost about three times as much as hinged doors, and it's not worth it to me.

Maybe the fundamental problem is that people always assume custom-designed houses here, where you can use any materials the market offers. Maybe I'm simply in the wrong place here as someone who wants to build with a prefab house manufacturer. Maybe.
Anyway, in our case, there is a window catalog from which we can choose, but we are also limited to it. Windows in "160.5 cm" sound great, but simply don't exist with that manufacturer.

Eaves-side windows in children's rooms would significantly limit our furniture placement options again. So, in our amateurish foolishness, we thought we'd install very wide floor-to-ceiling windows instead of an additional light strip (which was also recommended by the architect).

In general, many things are a financial matter, and I almost have the impression that I have to be ashamed in this forum to say that an extra 10,000 euros for sliding doors and windows are simply not possible for us.

To be honest: Right now I'm pretty frustrated.

... without having read everything: Don't hang your head. For the vast, vast, vast majority, building a house is a matter of weighing priorities. Hardly anyone has an unlimited budget and can plan completely freely. If sliding doors simply aren't worth the money to you, then that’s how it is, and you don’t need to justify yourself. In the end, you will be the one living there and not someone who is just trying to give you a suggestion. For us, the big issue was the basement, not necessarily here in the forum, but outside with family and friends. It feels like 99% would never build without a basement – but the fact that you first have to have or get the money for that plays at least some role in people’s minds. That is perfectly normal.

Thank you...

My problem right now is that many comments come across to me as "Oh my God, how can someone be so stupid?!" That is certainly not meant that way (a classic problem of written conversations) and I am too sensitive, but if you feel like you are only met with this kind of attitude, it's hard not to be frustrated.

We have also considered making the emergency windows face the garden. There we could make both large windows emergency windows, which would solve the different heights. However, the architect said that by doing so we would be committing to designing the area in such a way that the fire department could access it. That put me off the idea again.

I don’t want to lie – I assume that there are indeed users here who mean their posts exactly the way you perceive them. But: At least on the last few pages of your thread, that’s all I’ve read, none of the usual suspects have been active. Those who have written there are really doing it only and exclusively to help. I can understand you well. I think everyone who has built or is building has been at that point at some time.

No. 80% here have a cheap standard house to discuss, which they want to optimize within the given limits. And we know that too. And if you were to follow your likes here in the forum during discussions by reading along, you would know it and many questions and the why and how would become clear immediately. Yes, that’s the one who talks for you - just as she blindly drafts everything you give her. I don’t see any initiative from her from your draft #158 to the current one. Just having a windowless storage room in prime southwest direction is a bit cheeky when the optimization is obvious. Her job seems to be not to annoy you until the planning phase is over. You can’t do anything about the architect’s lack of initiative. But whoever seeks advice and help must also deal with the tips given. I could write tons of arguments on the subject of dressing rooms, windows, bathrooms, kitchens and sofas, views and sight lines (like many here), but honestly: I have already written very often and extensively about it in many parts of the forum and I will not point to other comparable discussions any more. No, you shouldn’t. I also don’t have sliding doors but 2-meter-wide hinged doors. Maybe I will be laughed at - I don’t care, I am happy - that’s how a forum works: collect and filter. If you have space and plan them well, the doors don’t disturb and you can sleep better due to a smaller loan. For example, for us there was no surcharge for the windows either, since 4 sqm of wall costs the same as 4 sqm large terrace doors, of which we then took 2 more right away. For you, one probably has to decide: either the window area in the bedroom and hobby room with shutters, which are then useless, or plan the available window area in the living area. One can’t do more than point that out.
