You can also keep living in a cave That’s even cheaper... to me that sounds like people who always tell me, "You with your tech-packed Audi... if something breaks, constant trips to the workshop and so on"..Funny thing is, I’ve been driving cars like that for over 10 years and NEVER had a problem. Only others are constantly running to the workshop because their "no-tech" cars break down

It’s also always funny when people say.."You with your KNX fancy stuff... what if the power goes out"..Well, then? Then the lights go out at my place just like at yours! Only that with me the BUS (including alarm, smoke detectors, etc.) is still running thanks to UPS...

Why? These are only isolated days in winter. Calculated over the year, it relativizes itself.

Small mistake. The public grid is the largest storage that a private photovoltaic operator could wish for. You receive 12.3 cents/kWh for feeding in and can buy back at any time for 25-28 cents (individually). So storage costs about 13-16 cents. Or in other words, the storage loss is about 50%. A privately operated storage system has a technical loss of about 20%, and the withdrawn electricity is also subject to VAT (about 4 cents, respectively another 15% storage loss). That’s already 35% loss. Added to that is the purchase price of the storage, for example 6000€ for a 6kWh storage. You can expect 250 full charge cycles (optimistic!), manufacturers usually guarantee 10 years, the rest is a matter of luck. 250 cycles * 6kWh * 10 years = 15,000 kWh can be fed in and used during the lifetime (optimistic and simplified). In relation to the purchase price, this means 40 cents per kWh just from the acquisition, respectively another 150% storage loss. In total, it is about 185% storage loss with decentralized storage vs. 50% storage loss when feeding into the grid and buying back at any time. Only direct consumption is (significantly) cheaper.

That’s what I assumed, I wasn’t aware of the detour via the public grid. Then we can get started ... If we ever have an electric car, I’ll think about it.

We built in 2015/16, 1.5 stories (140 m²), moved in May 2016 for 163,000 plus house connections, painting, partial flooring. With a thick line under it, we paid about 290,000 for everything else: land, incidental building costs, carport, fence, topsoil, paving driveway and terrace, furnishings (cabinets, kitchen, etc.). Inflation and the new energy saving regulations everyone has to calculate on their own, the house would probably cost ~170,000 today. To address the question, we built in a Spartan way: 36.5 cm stone, triple glazing, gas condensing boiler, hot water on the roof. If the system on the roof ever breaks, it will be disconnected and that's it.
