Is a "Free TV" connection still worthwhile?

I would definitely install the cables. The [SAT-Schüssel] can also come later, although today it’s not expensive anymore and everyone has an integrated [Sat-Receiver] in their TV anyway. I wouldn’t install multiple connections in every room; one has always been enough so far.

I built without sat, but with coax cable. However, it is no longer used now, as the television comes via the internet. I only did it with coax because it was included in the price, and the removal would have been about 100€ or so. Now one could, if desired.

Yes, it's the same for me. Hence the question, maybe I can swap the SAT for LAN sockets. I only have 2 LAN sockets in the room partly, but they want €80 more per socket.

How do you watch Free TV then? Like something like Entertain or one of the countless other providers?

Definitely satellite. Much cheaper and more reliable than over the internet. Satellite installation is rather inexpensive and you have it back within three years compared to the internet.

So we do use SAT, but primarily for when, for example, the parents-in-law are visiting

If you mainly watch Netflix or Prime, you really don’t need it. Public broadcasters when there’s the World Cup can also be watched for free via apps like Magine or media libraries, so the investment isn’t worth it. I wouldn’t take Entertain either, way too expensive.

Our little one is already accustomed to non-linear TV, so at least for us SAT is probably a thing of the past
