Is a "Free TV" connection still worthwhile?

One could smile about it, or dismiss it as a generational change, or whatever. And sure, whether the third-rate soap opera is on netflix or ZDF makes no difference. But where does Generation Netz get its information? I think they don’t have a FAZ or Spiegel subscription. They don’t watch news, magazines, Phönix, Arte. So they probably hang out on dubious YouTube channels. Where the one theme is a black man screwing blondes and groping them beforehand. Or a Muslim raping a 25-year-old. Or an Afghan robbing pensioners and selling drugs. Or whatever. What is really going on in the world, that Trump annoys Erdogan in NATO, that Draghi will soon raise interest rates, that Merkel is praised by Schröder but not Nahles, etc., you don’t learn on YouTube channels or on infotainment channels like N 24, which prefer to report on the biggest excavator in the world. The result is a dumbed-down, albeit top-trained, Excel-proficient, but otherwise stupid generation. Therefore, take Sat. And read. Karsten

Sorry for the harsh correction, but it’s the other way around: Only through the self-chosen breadth of different internet offerings do I get the information that later turns out to be correct and that I find important (instead of the frontrunners in newspapers and TV).

There is a uniform opinion on a few topics that established media have been pushing for decades. The internet offers a way out of this very large filter bubble.

And the time when you received analyses from professional journalists in such quality that they were not available elsewhere for the average citizen has been over for more than a decade.

There is nothing to add to that. Television is - today more than before - an entertainment medium.

Personally, I would still install SAT, especially because the cost factor is quite low. But make sure that the coax cable also goes into the empty conduit and that there are possibly necessary pull boxes, otherwise swapping won't be possible anymore.

Regarding the network. What does 2 outlets mean? One double outlet or 2 double outlets? In the area of TV and office, I wouldn't save on LAN. Don't forget LAN outlets for central WLAN access points.

If the rain is too heavy and SAT fails, I sometimes switch to the broadcasters' media libraries or Zattoo. The disadvantage is with live sports. Your neighbor with SAT is already celebrating the goal and you only see it 30 seconds later.

I did it that way and simply had the coaxial cables installed as a precaution. I omitted the dish and peripherals like the distributor. Instead, I installed network sockets everywhere where the children can also decide how they want to be entertained visually.

Independent of the Wi-Fi, there is thus a network connection for end devices where an Entertain receiver can be connected. That is definitely cheaper than having to book an HD+ package for multiple TVs. With my Entertain, I save significantly in relation. And after almost 8 years of IPTV via Entertain (here in the old apartment), I never really had a failure... whereas back then the initially still present Sat receiver broke down... the Entertain receivers (rental devices with cheaper rent every year) can simply be exchanged without complications.
