Is a "Free TV" connection still worthwhile?

enlighten me, but 5GHz is currently not intended/suitable for penetrating walls. The purpose of use is rather exactly the opposite.

Of course, it always depends on the individual case and the bands used by the neighbors. Our router is in the basement, and on the ground floor there is already stable WLAN only with an access point. On the first floor, the access point from the ground floor is only reachable unstably, and on the second floor the network is not even detected. And as expected technically, it is even significantly worse with 5 GHz.

Read the headline?
It’s not about _how_ you get on the internet, but _whether_ free TV is worth it. That you can get the TV program via Wi-Fi through the internet, no question. But that wasn’t asked. Wi-Fi is always "vulnerable" to interference.

5GHz was also almost unusably slow with my old notebook when you are more than 5 meters away from the access point

I can’t tell you what the reason is, I’m not an IT expert. The switch to the new laptop was apparently decisive.

But I don’t want to go further off-topic here (although I don’t find it off-topic! because I watch TV like this) :-P

Well, modern wifi, small house, ytong wall, today I connected my notebook to the TV with an HDMI cable, then watched YouTube cranberries live in Santiago, wonderfully streamed over wifi, great picture, good sound, no stuttering, and the recently deceased Dolores O'Riordan was so wonderful.

Wi-Fi with one participant usually runs smoothly. It becomes interesting when multiple participants access the access point simultaneously. As far as I know, in Wi-Fi every request is processed one after the other. If the smartphones crowd in front of the TV, it may also happen that the TV's buffer becomes empty and it stutters. The only option then would be to tweak the QoS.

Wi-Fi is only needed for smartphones/laptops, there are enough LAN sockets anyway! I even laid a CAT cable through a cable duct to every TV here in my rental apartment...
