Is a "Free TV" connection still worthwhile?

There is little to add to that. The public broadcasters are state-controlled sources of information to spread left-wing populism and manipulate the electorate. I only mention Trump and AFD bashing. No trace of facts.

Independent information can be found on the internet, not always easy.

Sat TV is entertainment, nothing more.

(Emphasis mine)

Interesting. Being supportive of the state is not necessarily left-wing. I would have actually claimed the opposite. But we agree on the poor quality.

or first consider why this is so.

That might also be a good thing. Less in the FAZ but Spiegel, Bild and the rest of the Springer press is probably more the area...

You already give the answer yourself. The "Net" offers far more variety than you can even imagine via satellite TV. That is system-based. Through television and print media, the dissemination of news and OPINIONS was in the hands of a few. Private actors with lots of money and corresponding contacts and living spaces on one side and state institutions on the other. It may have worked in the early years, but if you look at, for example, how SPIEGEL was founded and who was involved then and is involved now, it becomes clear that these actors increasingly became partners rather than opponents. Regardless of whether opponents or partners, the group of opinion makers and information distributors was greatly reduced. Television is not to blame for that; it has always been that way. Only through the internet have more and more people gained the opportunity to spread their opinion or other information that is separate from Springer, Gruner and Jahr and ARD. Just as not everything that runs on television is true, one should not take everything that is spread on the internet at face value either. It is much more about engaging with new sources, but also questioning old sources, such as the major print media or public broadcasters.

For you, I recommend starting your research on the ZDF website in the ZDF Mediathek. There you will find by far the best show on German TV: "Die Anstalt" – truly smart minds are behind it and not just Josef Joppe.

I see it differently. The quality of the information provided by online portals shakes me. Although ARD and ZDF may be biased, they do not lie.

What do you understand by a "web portal"? I find both on the net: concocted conspiracy-eso-nonsense and information and analyses of striking clarity that cannot be found in established media. When experts talk or write about specialized topics, you quickly notice how superficial and tendentious classical journalists work.

You don't visit web portals either, but rather create your own newsfeed from blogs and vlogs and attend specialist lectures on YouTube – all with a critical basic attitude. Besides, you check primary sources yourself if you really want to get into the topic.

So they just don't know any better when they tell nonsense? Could be... But why should I use them then?

Lying is a very flexible term in politics. For me, opinion making instead of objective reporting also falls under this. That is why people get their information online.
