Is a "Free TV" connection still worthwhile?

We have a satellite connection in all rooms. If necessary, the wiring could also be used for cable TV, cable connection is available, furthermore we have Netflix, Amazon, and so on. I have to pay the GEZ anyway, so I might as well listen/watch the nonsense of the public broadcasters from time to time.

Very simple calculation for us: The SAT system with multiswitch and sockets in every room (partly 2) would have cost us about €2,500. For that, I can get 500 months of Entertain TV from Telekom or other providers. It even works during thunderstorms and snowfall. If the internet fails, we watch offline movies. Streaming providers are anyway miles ahead of traditional television in terms of transmission quality. Amazon and Netflix have been streaming in 4K for years. This will end just like with the SAT sockets and the telephone sockets that were installed in every room some time ago. Nowadays, people also make phone calls over the internet.

At 2500€, I would have looked for a different electrician. The distance to Entertain is not that great either, because in addition to the 5€ monthly fee, each TV also requires an Entertain box.

Then use it, and you'll know how bad it is. I even recently entered exact keywords from a thread's title and got zero results as usual. I tend to find my thread more through Google than through the forum's own search.

I’m more on Karsten’s side, but I also have to admit that we grew up with public broadcasters (as well as the old spelling rules) because of our age.

And I don’t think you, OP, want to know how WE use TV here in the forum.

But just think about it: what about your wife?

And consider whether there might also be added value here that you don’t get with Netflix and the like:

And with self-chosen information, the mistake is already in expecting to get all information neutrally. You choose for yourself:

And if it HAS to go like THIS, then apparently it doesn’t work without:

Neutral? No. It’s about getting what doesn’t appear in classic media or is only reported from one side. The cross-section of the various views at least makes it possible to get closer to the truth.

But apart from that: Whoever absolutely wants to watch Tatort and Inspector Barnaby can also do that via the internet. Classic scheduled TV will die out with the generation that still uses it now.

In the place of the OP, I wouldn’t worry about the question at all given the relatively low amounts involved for SatTV. You just do it then.
