That’s not what I meant. I have no problems with different opinions - they are often even helpful.

That will be bright enough. And otherwise, turn the lamp on. We also have such a hallway and see no problem with it. Ours is also 18 sqm. Doors always all open. Living room door glazed, front door with glass, done. Why the hallway shouldn't be living space does not make sense to me. She irons there, the grandchildren get the building carpet and set up the gas station there, Katzer has his basket there. There are two dressers in there, that is also a kind of room.

One more tip. Take a terrace door to the unfinished attic above. Install one or two Velux windows in the roof right away. That gives light in the hallway, and such a door doesn’t warp. If you finish the attic, it’s gone anyway; then you just put it in the greenhouse or something. There’s always some use for it.

I have not been interested in this thread so far because the draft is so terribly bad that it is not worth commenting on. Others will say enough about it and already have. But this is now specifically for Karsten: Man, I really like you but here you have gotten stuck in something that is completely incomprehensible to everyone else and me. The thing is worthless - with your endorsements you only confuse the OP. No hard feelings.

Katja, then ours is also useless. We built almost the same and are very satisfied with it. The bedroom they now have is larger and without corners, the hallway smaller, the other things you all criticize, hallway, long distances, dirty zone, two dining areas, two doors, etc., they want all of that and so do we or it doesn't bother us. Yesterday we had the traditional egg disposal at our house, children, grandchildren, six people. Everything quickly into the living room and back, no problem, everyone reaches for it, many hands, quickly over. Later my wife and I will eat together in the kitchen. Since everything here is deeply snowed in today, I am glad to have a utility room as an airlock and a back door when you have to go out this morning. The hallway is definitely totally clean. We like living like this, and the OP with his girlfriend apparently does too.

I believe Karsten feels somewhat attacked here and defends the design so vehemently because he sees a strong comparison to his own house. But there is a difference between building for a future family with small children and building for two people who are approaching retirement.

To the OP: It doesn’t matter to me in the end what your house looks like. I also don’t care whether you make a children's room accessible from the living room and whether your child handles the "noise" well or not. It has to work for you in the end, and if your own wishes (rotated ridge) are suddenly dropped again just so nothing else has to be changed, I see no possibility and no need to continue discussing further.

Edit: Just saw Karsten’s last comment. I guess I’m right that he feels personally attacked...
