Thanks, how would you minimize the traffic areas?

My sincere tip: there really aren't many truly good, different options with these dimensions. This is not meant to be judgmental at all. We thought back and forth a lot when we bought our first semi-detached house back then. In the end, we settled on the standard floor plan with minimal changes. It's simply a fact that these few standard floor plans make the best use of these dimensions. Otherwise, there will always be some tight spots here and there. And these floor plans are not bad either and make the house appear most spacious. Also: if there are several houses being built, changes like altering the shape of the stairs, for example, will cost you quite a bit because these are ordered in large quantities as standard, just as an example. And again: is it a [REH], meaning an end-of-terrace house, or a mid-terrace house? With an end house, where the entrance could also be on the side, there would be completely different possibilities.

You were not meant with the bitter defending. Sorry if that was unclear. And yes, theoretically, most wishes can also be accommodated in small houses – but that usually means more planning effort, more custom work, and higher costs.

don’t you have a house with similar dimensions or am I mixing something up?

I would omit the two balconies on the upper floor. Expensive smoker's exit. With the saved money, I would give the two children's rooms a gallery in the attic. First as a play level, later for sleeping.

On the ground floor with 7m external dimension, something around 6.2m will be left inside
1. kitchen unit 60 cm
distance between the units 120 cm
2. kitchen unit as a peninsula without counter 100 cm
that already makes 2.8 m
2.8 m is the minimum space requirement for a dining table with chairs on the left and right. But only zero-size people can pass by seated ones.

Personally, the shape of the living area bothers me and it feels cramped.
I would remove the pantry. Take out the door, the kitchen gets bigger.

On the ground floor I would probably change everything.
Starting from the last floor plan
swap WC and wardrobe. WC gets a shower
kitchen becomes living room
dining becomes kitchen
living becomes dining
living becomes a separate room
kitchen has direct garden access (outdoor dining area) and access to the dining area
I would leave the dining area open towards the stairs
fireplace omitted

What ultimately fits, you have to try out with correct measurements and furniture.
Go through your apartment. Every bottleneck that bothers you now, you should avoid. Just as well, what you find too big, you can make smaller. Look around at friends and relatives. Make the tape measure your friend.

The standard floor plan from our architect is unfortunately quite cramped and does not correspond to our wish for “open living.” We believe that makes sense at 55m² since everything appears larger, or what do you think?

It is a REH, the neighbor is directly attached on the west side, the garden is on the south, the entrance area is on the north (since the footpath is also there), and on the east there is about 3m of space between the wall and the property boundary. So the entrance on the side would be possible.

Thank you very much! Swapping the WC and wardrobe including a shower for the WC on the ground floor was also our idea.

We will consider swapping the rooms or discuss it with our planner. The thought behind it was that we usually only stay in the living room in the evening and therefore this room shouldn’t take up space on the south side, where the garden is outside and most light comes in. We would like to fully glaze the corner in the southeast, so the kitchen is not suitable there. But we will see, anyway thank you very much for the suggestions and ideas ;)
