For safety, it is crucial whether the stairs are open or closed and whether the children can fall through the railing on the side. The worst thing was when I fell down a straight staircase as an 11-year-old. I ended up with a blister on my finger and a bruise on my lower back. By the way, the staircase was actually too steep according to the DIN. So it only had something to do with the child to a limited extent.

You really don't need to. It's none of my business, but if the accident was severe and you can't get it out of your mind: quickly see a psychiatrist for a few sessions. That often helps a lot and you regain your quality of life.

It really looked nasty, but the little children really recover in a miraculous way. She had a dent in her forehead, but fortunately it receded after 4 weeks. I think I need a therapist when I finish the preliminary project. o_O
