Friends of mine have the equipment room next to the stairs, so that the equipment room extends under the stairs. This way, the space can, for example, be used for the placement of a washing machine and dryer. For this, a closed staircase is necessary. So there isn’t much space under a staircase. They also enlarged the house by 1m in the area of the equipment room to have more space in the hallway. But this, of course, depends on the layout.
