We are currently looking for a kitchen for our new building, which is set to start in 2021. Nothing extravagant. The first two kitchen studio visits resulted in a price of at least 15k€ plus the side-by-side refrigerator that we will purchase ourselves.

We are a bit surprised that you pay at least 15k€ for a few pieces of furniture and 3 appliances (dishwasher, cooktop + convection, oven). The consultants were rather expecting 20k€. The countertop is not even ceramic, but rather granite.

Are there other options to buy an affordable kitchen?

Please don’t get me wrong. We could afford such a kitchen. We just don’t see why we should spend 20k€ on a few pieces of furniture and appliances.

Yes, 20k is nowadays the entry price for kitchens, but you already have a bit in there.

In our cost planning, father-in-law (earns his money with real estate construction) as well as the architect estimated about 20K €. From the beginning, we had the gut feeling that this would not be enough. Our current carpenter kitchen already cost 20K € in 2010 and is about half the size and equipped with less good appliances than we will have in the new building. This one costs us 27.5K €.

Impossible to judge without knowing what and how much was planned. There are some price drivers in kitchens or things that simply cost. If you present your kitchen in another forum [ ] you can certainly get help to make it cheaper.

But for example, marble slabs are now also not in the low budget range.
