We had one on a trial basis... you can forget it. If you don’t want the device rolling over your feet and getting in the way when you’re at home, it has to run in the morning, but then all the doors have to be open, which doesn’t work because of the dog who isn’t allowed everywhere. Also, the device has rounded corners, so you end up vacuuming by hand again. It can’t get onto the high carpet in the living room, so you have to vacuum by hand again. It’s too tall for the area under the sofa that I vacuum regularly. It can’t go under the dining table because of the chairs, the edge areas by the doors, and so on, and so on, and so on... The thing is only useful if you have a room without furniture. I’m thinking more of large hallways in office buildings, in kitchen showrooms, etc... but for home it doesn’t help me much on the few square meters it vacuums.

Hello , you can't generalize that way. What expectations did you have when you made the purchase? That the device would vacuum without moving around? That the robot would go through the doors? That it is flat enough to get under the couch and at the same time overcome a high carpet? Ours naturally gets through the open doors into the rooms and vacuums there without any problems under the couch and under the dining table even though we also have "swing chairs" with round bottom bars there. It does struggle there repeatedly but eventually navigates around them. Our robot also cleans the corners of the apartment quite thoroughly. We don't have any carpet, so I can't judge that. Which device did you test?

That is exactly the central question...

Many of the criticized weaknesses can be easily fixed with the appropriate design of the robot.

Opening doors or "locking in" the dog while vacuuming will probably not be achievable by a vacuum robot in the foreseeable future.

On the other hand:

High carpet: Built-in "climbing aid" for steps up to 2 cm - exists

Corners: 90° corners at the front with protruding round brush - exists

Chairs: Corresponding sensor technology for avoidance - exists

Our Dobby certainly has no problems with that.

But even with a vacuum robot, it must be carefully considered whether the demands and expectations of the device, the price of the device, and the "approved budget" match.

Buying a Dacia and expecting a Porsche is usually a bit difficult...

Two more questions about this:

Do you still regularly vacuum by hand?
How often did you vacuum per week before, and if the first question was answered with yes, how often do you still vacuum now?

No, because we don't have a dog

: There are now two situations in which hand vacuuming is done:

1. When I (once again) have lost "crumbs" during wood transport :rolleyes or have spread ash when cleaning the stove ops:- then the small handheld vacuum cleaner is used.

2. When we want to mop wet at the same time, then the big Kobold with the vacuum mop is used.

For "normal" vacuuming, however, we are fully satisfied with the robot.

Dirk
