Yes, the suction mop is a fine thing.

You clamp a damp wiping cloth in the middle, suction takes place in front of and behind the cloth, and in the middle the wiping cloth vibrates back and forth, thus cleaning the floor.

There are different cloths for various floor coverings and a dosing aid for the corresponding amount of water/cleaning agent.

Dirk

Since I have had the robots, I only vacuum rarely, just now and then for inaccessible spots (e.g. behind the PC, in corners behind the seating set, etc. where the vacuum can't reach and dust accumulates). Before, because of the cats, actually every 1-2 days.

I vacuum at most once a week upstairs to clean the hard-to-reach corners since our Wall-E moved in. We had to vacuum daily before because we have a long-haired cat. The robot runs daily at our place.

With the vacuum cleaner being used daily so far, I can very well understand the investment. In our case, despite having a long-haired cat, we usually only vacuum on weekends, unless the cat is currently in the peak phase of shedding. Somehow, I still don't see the time/benefit factor for a 600-800€ investment, and even then I still regularly have to clean the hard-to-reach corners manually and therefore cannot do without a regular vacuum cleaner. Also, the cat is not supposed to enter certain rooms. That is difficult to manage with open doors. I find the topic highly interesting, but somehow it is still not really worthwhile for us. Maybe the good devices will become a bit more affordable, so that it will be worth it someday.

That is definitely a very individual decision with a device in this price range. For us, it is such that on the ground floor and upper floor, all rooms are open/accessible except for the guest bathroom on the ground floor, and the cats are allowed in there as well. In this case, I believe it’s not the length of the hair but how much is shed that matters (I would now think that long hair takes longer to regrow and maybe falls out less often?). Our two only have to play together once, and they romp around so wildly that huge amounts of hair “fall off.” It is actually the case that when we vacuum less often, the amount of hair is extremely noticeable. No matter where something falls, there would be tons of hair on it. And we have two small children. Overall, about 3 hours per week are definitely “freed up” for us (especially—try vacuuming when a two-year-old is “helping” and hanging on the vacuum handle). On the other hand, the Romba vacuum cleaner has also been running for 4 years now (previously in our apartment), so that adds up to quite a few hours over the years. Everyone just has to know for themselves what their time is worth.
