Put yourself in the position of the mayor of a 1,200-inhabitant community near a highway and a big city. The building land in his community is reaching new top prices. City dwellers move in, their incomes pay the prices. Only these city dwellers have zero interest in the community. They use it for sleeping; otherwise, it’s only about the highway access. And when they show any interest in daycare or primary school somewhere, they think they know everything better. Yes, they apparently look down a bit on the silly villagers. On the other hand, the villagers earn much less; Max, a carpenter journeyman, and his Hanna, a bakery saleswoman, can no longer afford the property prices. But Max is active in the fire brigade, Hanna coaches the little ones in handball at the sports club, they have always lived here, are involved everywhere and well-liked... They also bring children into the world.
Now the mayor can get six hectares of land. The old farmer K. wants to sell; his son is not taking over the farm. They agree, and the mayor now convinces the municipal council that it will be building land, subsidized at 99,- per sqm. Fully developed. And only to locals, there are enough newcomers in the village. Max and Hanna get one. The Koslowskis from the city do not.
...If I were mayor, I would do it the same way. Karsten
