as mentioned, 60-70% are not uncommon.
nordlys is quite right, however, that Ikea simply has a fair, open pricing system. nobody said cheap, but open and fair. you know down to the last cent how much another kitchen front will cost, how much the large apothecary cabinet costs, etc... it's just transparent and that is extremely important to me.
we lost 2 Saturdays with kitchen planning back then because the salesperson wouldn't say how much the kitchen countertop integrated in the window should cost. in the end she finally came up with €50. we had expected €500-1000 and constantly wondered whether we wanted to do it or not, and she ended up coming with peanuts. at Ikea, you would have configured the wider countertop, seen the €50, and that would have been it.
whether to buy the electrical appliances from Ikea in the end is up to each individual.
but you can also very nicely see how much extra a simple front costs compared to high gloss at Ikea. others won't be able to do it cheaper either, and you quickly realize that 20x front elements with a €50 surcharge each also adds up to a fixed €1000 surcharge.
our order was:
- the appliances are the most important!
- that also applied to the sink and waste system
- the function of the cabinets was next most important to us (no dead corners, apothecary cabinet, functional back panel because of hinged doors, many drawers)
- the look of the fronts was actually rather unimportant to us (only as much as the surcharge would allow)
- the handles were completely irrelevant, great that you don't know what each handle costs... (and you can change them later because the hole spacing is standardized...)
