that's also a nice idea... how should I imagine the oak wood? Isn't it very sensitive? Our kitchen is white too..

Is more sensitive than stone. However, my parents have been using such a board forever and it is not oiled particularly often. Dough is rolled out on a mat; otherwise, we have always used it like a normal countertop. Our kitchen studio had no negative feedback and a larger selection available to touch directly on site. Only the white bleached ones were rather discouraged, as they tend to darken quite a bit. For 3 sqm island and 2 m wall, we paid about 4-5k €.

We also have oak (veneer) and that's totally unproblematic. Every thousand years it gets oiled once, you probably shouldn't place very hot pots on it. You can also easily work on the surface, which of course creates a certain patina. Or just use a cutting board. But why solid wood? I don't see any advantage for a countertop, except that it takes three times as many hands to lug the thing into the house. 4-5k - you can get that for a fraction, 150-200€/m would already be very very well paid (and special depth probably won't impact the price as much with veneer as with solid wood). But I don't think wood is right if a particularly thin board is desired.

Why massive? No idea, we just liked it better visually than the veneered ones, which all tended to be glossy. Ours had a rather matte, almost anthracite finish, which wasn’t available with the veneers. By the way, it is completely finger-jointed and 30mm thick, as I just saw on the invoice.

The shine is really cool! Clean lines, no things standing around on it, etc.

Those rustic kitchens bother me, they make me nervous.

It's just a matter of taste. For me, furniture has to be matte. High gloss is a thing of the past and, for my taste, there is already too much stuff on there. I would let the knife block pass [emoji3]
