We bought a very large kitchen for well over 20k, but played it through as a reference in the Ikea planner. So now I can nicely play around with it: with the most expensive fronts and appliances, the same kitchen at Ikea costs only 10k instead of 28k; if I lower the fronts and appliances, I come down to 4800 euros and even then there is still potential with the countertop and sink. And our kitchen has a 3m x 1.2m island and additionally a 4.80m wall unit.

So our kitchen is definitely not made of plastic. There is also no noticeable or visible difference compared to the expensive 10k kitchen of our neighbors.

It's quite simple: Do you still have the money for a generously equipped kitchen with appliances in the rather high price range, or not?! If money is tight, then for the first 3 years only a "plastic kitchen" will do.

We don't have to go all out on the kitchen either. You have to decide for yourselves what is an absolute must and what is a "would be really nice". For me, flooring work is an absolute must. A 15k kitchen is in the "would be nice" category. The paved driveway would be nice, but not absolutely necessary, the great fence around the garden as well, etc. We do have to make cutbacks because money will be tight, so there is a cheap kitchen, the car will first drive over gravel, and the roll lawn will be replaced with self-sown grass. The robotic mower will be postponed to next year, just like the great heating control (smart home) that we can retrofit later. There will be no wallpaper on the walls, just plain paint.

Perhaps no difference can be seen or felt right now, but maybe in 10 years. Ikea doesn't have a standard grid, does it? Neither the depth nor the width, I believe, is identical to the rest of the market, so you are also tied to the devices at Ikea. Or am I mistaken?

That matches my experience quite exactly. Congratulations, with your final price you were certainly very, very close to the seller's pain threshold.

So if after 10 years the kitchen slowly falls apart, I happily get a new one. Even then, I am still under 15k in total and have new appliances that save me energy again (A+++++++++)
