And the things he enjoys second most – TutTut cars can be gotten used for 3€ if needed. :P And yes – I know that when they get older they won’t be satisfied with TutTuts anymore. But the difference is that you can see the problems, or solutions. And I would rather tell my kids every now and then “Sorry, we can’t fulfill this wish, we can’t afford it,” than tell them nothing at all because they don’t exist.

I would advise the OP to actually try rigorous saving. Not necessarily because the case will then be more worthwhile, but to see how severe the restrictions are in perception. And looking better off doesn’t hurt when the next interesting opportunity comes along, even if, miraculously, interest rates are suddenly back at 2%.

But one must not forget that 3k per installment does not equal 3k for living expenses. I think ancillary costs for an older existing property should not be underestimated. Here we have 6 people in a 200sqm building from 1930 and pay 300€ for gas and 170€ for electricity – per sqm we are even cheaper than you. Something doesn’t add up, does it?
