Even though this doesn't really belong here, I have to raise a small veto. When I started riding back then, we were still welfare recipients. I handed out flyers, got used clothes, and every cent was saved for the hobby (GLADLY). Also, by decluttering and helping out, I occasionally got free riding lessons, etc. However, you have to be passionate about it to keep it up ... and nowadays, very few are.
I find it very admirable when someone sticks with it like that. We're not necessarily doing badly, but I have to say that we also only buy a fraction of our children's clothes new. My mother always has some reservations about it (maybe it wasn't so common or accepted in the past?), but she often says, "Yes, I know, nowadays you all do it that way." I just think we still have a wasteful course in the textile industry that can't be maintained like this. Fashion chains releasing new collections every week, lots of waste — you can always see it when there's a call for donations like with the earthquake disaster. The first thing that happens is that tents overflow with textiles in garbage bags that are donated because, to be honest, we have way too much of everything. And with children's clothes, I just can't get my head around how expensive they are compared to the duration they are worn. Especially with small babies. For number 2, I bought so many beautiful things used, for next to nothing, brand-name items that look like new — with the only "downside" that someone else already washed out the chemicals 2-3 times. By now, I've really become pragmatic. And with the older child, we at least still buy the dedicated "daycare clothes" used. I'm not going to pay 30€ for a jacket that is going to be stained forever after the first Bolognese. :D
