That's how it is. With the fourth child, the choice of vehicle is considerably reduced because 80% of 7-seaters have the last row of seats in the trunk / as emergency seats. You don't want to sit there when going on vacation...

As long as we are still discussing hobbies like horseback riding, there is still room in the house. Because such hobbies only exist when money is only felt, but not really scarce

Even though this doesn’t really belong here, I have to raise a small veto. I started riding back then when we were still welfare recipients. I distributed flyers, got used clothes, and every cent was saved for the hobby (WILLINGLY). Also, by cleaning out and helping, I occasionally got free riding lessons, etc., etc. However, you have to be passionate about it to stick with it... and nowadays, very few people do that.

I find it very admirable when someone sticks with it like that. We're not necessarily doing badly, but I have to say that we also only buy a fraction of our children's clothes new. My mother always has some reservations about it (maybe it wasn't so common or accepted in the past?), but she often says, "Yes, I know, nowadays you all do it that way." I just think we still have a wasteful course in the textile industry that can't be maintained like this. Fashion chains releasing new collections every week, lots of waste — you can always see it when there's a call for donations like with the earthquake disaster. The first thing that happens is that tents overflow with textiles in garbage bags that are donated because, to be honest, we have way too much of everything. And with children's clothes, I just can't get my head around how expensive they are compared to the duration they are worn. Especially with small babies. For number 2, I bought so many beautiful things used, for next to nothing, brand-name items that look like new — with the only "downside" that someone else already washed out the chemicals 2-3 times. By now, I've really become pragmatic. And with the older child, we at least still buy the dedicated "daycare clothes" used. I'm not going to pay 30€ for a jacket that is going to be stained forever after the first Bolognese. :D

Yes, you can do a lot to make it cheaper. My sister did that back then as well. But €250 per month as mentioned in #180 is simply a sign that there is still room for improvement ;)

I do it like that too :) Many clothes as secondhand packages... Sew some things myself... And buy some new. The costs are just high because of daycare. Dresden 8h with meals €320. In the new daycare about €380-450 for 9h. Two children would already cost more money there.
