I doubt that anyone at the end of their life thinks they should have had one less child and instead more stuff in life...

You had written in the previous post that we had reached rock bottom. I think you have once again punched a hole in the foundation...

Yes, there are. Even in our family. She openly says that she would have preferred to live better and indulge herself more instead of having a third child. Ovarian cancer at 50 years old.

Everyone should decide that for themselves ... why interfere?

Who would have thought, but this time I have to agree with xMisterDx: he made a "if-then" statement. That is something different than punching a hole in the foundation.

And factually it is also correct: the OP really wants a single-family house. With the demands, it will be tight. A third child does not help financially.

I really can't see what is so objectionable about the statement. But yes, society is still oriented towards family. Including children. And children "are not to be considered a matter of weighing options." What nonsense. Otherwise every family would have at least 8 children. Having "only" an average of less than 2 children is also a consideration.

No reason for heated discussions. We are well aware of the pros and cons of a third child. We will sort that out among ourselves and, if necessary, bite the bullet and simply continue renting.

By the way, I see the biggest hurdle regarding the house only indirectly in the costs. Rather, we have to severely limit our selection of houses because ideally we need 5+ rooms (including a study). That of course then has a direct impact on the purchase price. Surely compromises can still be made there, but most houses on the market do not appeal to us in terms of size and layout. Regarding childcare and a second income, we are well positioned in the long term with both grandparents nearby.
