Price increase - Our construction company wants 21.4% more

What I had to read now about your construction project is not exactly nice and I really feel sorry for you. However, I have to say that I do not necessarily share the opinion of most people, but especially because I know that prices are currently not calculable and materials are scarce, I can also understand the decision of the construction company. That the timing, so shortly before the sampling, was totally wrong is beyond question. For me, things are going quite well, fortunately still at very moderate prices. Only the re-roofing is getting out of hand, as everything has to be removed here and roof battens now cost five times as much. But even here a really very lenient solution was found for me, namely that I have made an agreement with the roofer that he will be reimbursed by me for the difference only if (and only if) I get these costs back from my previous general contractor. No idea why he agrees to this, but then I probably can’t be such a “nasty broom,” as ypg calls me.

I thought it was a shame that you withdrew, among other things also because, from my point of view, you are a good example of perseverance and not giving up despite the most adverse circumstances, from which some here benefit. Thank you for your sympathy. I have accepted the changed circumstances; some are even advantageous and I am currently coming up with new ideas, like the roundabout with a fountain. ;-)

I can’t assess the price development and assumed that material prices are currently declining again. But you are right with your comments as well.

However, you were indeed meant. Not only I use people (here: you) as comparisons, (for example, an 11ant here serves as the elephant brain or the robber as the unlucky one) The frequent reader knows better what is meant. The mentioned thread does not even exist anymore.
I am not better either, because my post (where you are named) certainly does not represent everyone’s opinion; ultimately it is a critical self-reflection from me, which is very subjective. Not everyone thinks that way.

Material prices have indeed fallen slightly, that's true, but they are still far from the normal price. For our new roof I absolutely wanted wood fiber insulation boards because the expert recommended them to me. Nice, but try to get them. The building material markets only receive certain quotas from the supplier and those are long gone. Waiting times of 4-6 months. Many who urgently need the stuff no longer even ask about the price. And if they do, you might get about 40 sqm, but I needed 340 sqm. I spent 3 days only making calls and finally got the stuff together from 4 different dealers. On the internet I found one who had listed €9.60 per sqm, but his offer was then €13.90 per sqm. When I asked why it was different on the internet, he said, oh, we haven't updated that for months (it also says the product is sold out).
