Since there wouldn’t have been any "real" divided lights, but rather "internally mounted" ones, I have meanwhile gotten used to the idea that the windows will be without divided lights ... which is probably also contemporary. So far, I have successfully suppressed the thought that "internally mounted" divided lights don’t look quite as good; now I am letting it come fully to the forefront again. ;-) Since we are building a prefabricated house with a timber frame structure, the shutters are not easy to retrofit; it seems possible, but quite elaborate. I have almost forgotten this original wish as well. I know I will like the house anyway and we will feel comfortable and be happy there, even if we started as tigers and ended up as doormats. :)Since you also have to do without the divided-light windows - how about installing divided lights only in the front? That way you will have the expected joy when you drive up to your property. You can then retrofit the shutters.
