Hi Hausbautraum20,
nice that you were able to carry out your project or have started with it. There were also many skeptics regarding our project, though mostly from extended family. I also wouldn’t have wanted to do without a basement despite 237sqm of living space, and since the building technology has been installed, I’m even more grateful not to have to cut out the boiler for solar from the living area. The remaining 110sqm of basement are at least theoretically already filled with a laundry room, hobby room for fitness and sauna, workshop for my small (hobby) manufactory.
I also have a lot of support from my father and uncle and am very grateful for that. But I can see that it’s getting more exhausting day by day to go there in the evenings after work, every weekend, and 4 weeks of vacation on the construction site this year.
Unfortunately, I had to experience that things discussed in the family council are good as long as they are just talked about but not yet implemented. To put it bluntly, for example, we were completely abandoned by the father-in-law. Not only in terms of labor but also promises about things we were supposed to get cheaper or for free, which later cost us €15,000 and so on.
We were able to compensate for that, both monetarily and in terms of labor. But I wouldn’t do it again with so much own work and calculated support. And we’re not finished yet.
I know you don’t want to hear all this and always think you can handle everything yourself. I thought so too, no question. Now, 14 months after starting, I can honestly say I’m really exhausted and it was/is too much. In addition, it now costs a lot of money monthly: partly repayment + all incidental costs for the house, commitment interest, full rent and incidental costs, commuting between the apartment and the house + savings rate and things paid from the cash flow…
But somehow you get through it and in the end, you sit happily in your own four walls.
