I like Eket. The wall-mounted bedside table is a great idea - I'll keep that in mind. I get annoyed every time when vacuuming and mopping.
As I already wrote, we do have quite a few Ikea pieces of furniture and there will be even more. But that doesn't mean the house will be completely “Ikeanized” from top to bottom. Some old farmer cabinets and display cases – real old wood, partly with paintings – are and will remain the focal point. They have survived so many generations and are simply timeless to me. And they just fit into the half-timbered house. Such beautiful cabinets can't be found anymore today (or only with great difficulty and at high cost).
And yes, I admit it, I am strongly affected by my childhood and youth: In the 80s it was the massive wall units – “Anbauwände”, white kitchens with colorful panels and the plank-like floorboards furniture. In the 90s, then came black dust-collecting furniture in the youth room, bulky upholstered landscapes, fitted kitchens in rustic oak with matching corner benches and similarly supposedly rustic-looking sideboards for the living room along with tiled tables.
I am of the opinion (and hope) that most Ikea purchases are timeless. I bought my first Billy 20 years ago – and I still haven’t had enough of it. Just like various kitchen and bedroom cabinets – without frills, without a specific style. Some may see that as faceless. I see it as an opportunity to enjoy the basics for a long time and then work more with small decorative pieces (gladly also old stuff from the attic ) and textiles.
