This is similar to the frequently read "a completely normal/simple/humble/ordinary house with shower + bathroom; garden, garage, 2 cars, children's room for each child, kitchens with concrete countertops, wooden floors and other amenities that no longer have much to do with the description.
So, when I read "normal person" with 80,000 net (!) per year, it sounds rather mocking to my ears. Have you ever opened the newspaper and looked up what the frontline workers in healthcare currently earn? If not, I recommend you do. Or just follow up: I am one of those and have around 20,000 net per year.
I nearly wish everyone their good earnings. But the outrageous relativizing to "normal person" is really a slap in the face to those who earn significantly less despite working. It also helps if you are aware that your salary is by no means "earned" but rather poured into your wallet through all kinds of social and other injustices.
You know, it would be nice if high earners also appreciated their earnings as such. As it is, it’s rather cynical.
I was only able to pay for my house through financial support from my family. But I don’t find that bad. Good and very good earners get their gifts from society and circumstances, others from family.
Well, stop! If you both work for 20k net p.a., then you are not trained nursing staff. I studied for 6 years, completed 2 years of practical training, and have a €40,000 student loan hanging over me for my earnings. With €4,200 gross per month in the higher service, we are above the average salary but not in an abnormal range.
I did not want to belittle another profession with my statement, nor present mine as more important, but the number was misinterpreted by you; it combines both salaries.
This has nothing to do with luck, but rather with a lot of effort and initiative. I did not earn money at 19 and chose a different path than you. Therefore, mine is not better. So if it sounded mocking, I apologize; I referred to my predecessor.
Other trained professionals earn significantly more than I do, which is why I still do not start a debate about envy. Everyone can decide their own path. I am satisfied as it is and very happy that I go home with this amount in a region where money does not grow on trees.
