Yes, it was also intended to refer to the general public – I just contributed to the discussion :D All good – that’s what we’re here for after all :)

By calling me „neoliberal,“ you are barking up exactly the wrong tree.

The correct thing is that Bafög is a support intended for students whose parents belong to a low-income group – precisely BECAUSE of equal opportunity. Paying it out to everyone is the opposite of an even distribution of opportunities. Where the income limits are set can certainly be discussed. But that was not your approach.

Regarding working during studies: I find it normal to partly finance one’s studies through a job. And I also find it normal to complete a basic degree in a manageable way (near one’s place of residence or a cheaper student city, dual system) before specializing in one’s absolute dream subject.

The claim to immediately study one’s favorite subject full-time without having to work on the side strikes me as completely exaggerated. That’s how I understood your approach, but I admit that I read that between the lines – so I could be wrong. Please correct me then.

Yes, but I was referred to with the 80,000 € and no Bafög. That’s why I want to make it clear that my parents had an annual income of 80,000 €, but gross :-)

80,000 € net income is now the case for us. And no, that has nothing to do with "normal people." I think we are rich. Although you should define rich. From which perspective do you look at wealth? I think wealth starts with: having a roof over your head, being able to afford a car, going on vacation once a year, and not having to count every euro twice. With the car, it does not matter if you drive a used Dacia or a new Mercedes.

So, I sifted through the many pages of this thread last night and to sum it up for me:

Who has the highest monthly savings rate and with that the highest equity?

Exclusion criteria:
- You have to have earned everything yourself! What? Got land and money gifts from parents/grandparents? Sorry, you are totally out...
- If you didn’t really put in the effort during your studies and didn’t work at least 20 hours per week on the side, you’re out too...
- Teachers aren’t allowed to participate here at all, they just get everything gifted...
- You have a car? Then hopefully it’s older than 10 years or doesn’t go beyond the small car category, preferably you only have bicycles here, that earns bonus points... SUV owners are immediately excluded.
- Vacation? Not at all, you have a house with a garden, that’s enough vacation, buy yourself a sleeping mat and lie down in the garden. In exceptional cases, you may go camping with it. But that’s already the height of it....
- Otherwise, owners of an Iphone 11 or newer and owners of a Rolex are excluded.
- Furthermore, those who consider themselves normal with a net income of €80,000 are not welcome here...

Sorry for my sarcasm, but the culture of envy here in Germany is simply unbearable. By the way, I’m out of here again because "unfortunately" I meet almost all the exclusion criteria.

Exactly this mindset made me avoid personnel responsibility ...

(and still be "well off" financially ...)

Maybe it’s also because there is always something you can’t afford with money, whether you have 3,000€ net or 30,000€ net per month. There is (almost) always a watch, a car, a house, ... that is more expensive.
When the Geissens see their Indigo Star next to Abramovich’s Eclipse, they surely consider themselves "average" too.

I wouldn’t say that it’s envy but simply different perceptions of life or different life attitudes and philosophies. It’s not a bad thing if such “criteria” come up, right? It sparks a discussion – or do you think there is only ONE opinion?

Some things are definitely not up for discussion, no question. But in most of your statements, there is really too much sarcasm involved or it’s presented very, very drastically. I sometimes find it quite refreshing to exchange views on different opinions and engage in one discussion or another... This is also called politics :D

and btw. Why should anyone be jealous of complete strangers here from the forum – I don’t even know: a) if everything that someone tells here is true at all and b) I have zero connection with these people? Whoever is jealous of that... I really don’t know xD
