I just skipped that as a typo ;) Because this was about annual net income and not suddenly 12 times that.

That's the usual phenomenon. People consider themselves "average" even when they clearly belong to the top earners. Mr. Merz has already been mentioned... This often comes down to "birds of a feather flock together," where many people in one's circle of acquaintances are similarly positioned. And even if, , you can't make big leaps with 80k€ in the south... The vast majority of people there don't make any at all!
