MEDIAN family income, not AVERAGE income. The average is significantly higher because many people in the upper middle are much further above than those at the lower end. With such asymmetry, the average is therefore an almost meaningless value.

I don't understand how house prices can increase by 5% to 10% every year without salaries rising similarly.

Because they are paid. Quite simply. That only stops when effective demand no longer absorbs the supply. HOW are they paid despite incomes not keeping up? a) cheaper interest rates b) more equity from the first post-war heir generation

The discussion was about two teachers with full-time jobs, therefore two full incomes, and not about families with only one income. The median household income simply averages out these effects... So if the question is "Is 67k net a lot for dual earners without children?" the answer must naturally be different from the question "Is 67k net a lot for an n-person family with only one income?"

:D I've been thinking that for years. By the way, I have a late shift today... that also adds to the low-income status, by the way SK 4, on top of that

Because salaries are not fully spent on housing. Ultimately, it’s about priorities, what you want to spend how much money on. Then it’s just 40% instead of 30% of the salary.

The rest is taken care of by equity.
