Pre-planning with the architect - is having your own floor plan sensible?

@Ben1000: Yes, my tip was irony and the review hopefully showed what can be read from the floor plan and better not be able to. The architect needs a list of what is important to you, and all information available so far about the property and the current and possibly planned neighboring developments.

@katho674: May I ask what is supposed to be unsound about my criticism?

@ Everyone:
One might argue about the packaging of my criticism, but this is about the investment of a lifetime, a change of perspective and putting a finger on the wound are more than appropriate here. The OP will build with an architect, which architect agrees to the publication of their design in a forum? Therefore, the OP needs a procedure to evaluate the architect’s design and floor plan themselves, hence my contribution about reading out and perspective change as an approach to thinking and evaluation.

Well, wanderdüne. Thank you very much for your criticism, some perspectives were really new to me, others I had already considered, and some I find simply unobjective without knowing the framework conditions. You don’t know them at all. No floor plan is perfect and ultimately always a compromise. Besides, I don’t think I’m that naive and I think I can form an opinion about an architect’s floor plan draft. It’s not like I’ve never seen anything like that before. I also don’t want to argue about it now, because that definitely wasn’t my point (which is why I initially refrained from showing the floor plan). It was only about the question from the opening post.

So, I’ll leave the floor plan in the drawer and let the architect do their job. Then I’ll see if I want and can contribute one or the other idea later on.

Thanks so far for your assessments.

Regards, Ben

Gladly. If a sentence like this: is preceded by a list of reasons against showing the plan, it has a somewhat mocking - sarcastic and thus very offensive tone. This is fine if the questioner is a fool, but in this case completely inappropriate, as Ben asked very politely for our opinion. Otherwise, the arguments are certainly valid and Ben is now surely clear what you at least meant in terms of content.

I see no problem at all in showing a plan to an architect for the first impression. He will look at it and then focus on the property or site plan and development plan. As a result, a solid new plan will be created anyway, which certainly does not have the mistakes that TE included. At least it should be that way.

That is correct, however, these compromises must be at a very high level, i.e. hardly restrictive. I hope you have found a good architect. Then you will see that the raised points of criticism are not to be found there, even under possibly demanding conditions.

: Stay calm. The best goal has been achieved, the original poster has reflected and gained new insights.

By the way, I am an unconditional advocate that when posting floor plans the conditions should be explained in detail.

Don't worry, I couldn't be calmer. On the contrary, I'm about to snore.
Just wanted to make sure that Ben doesn't get the wrong impression of the forum and that you realize if you possibly overstepped in tone.
